Insulin receptors and the clinician.

Deficiency of insulin brings about rapid metabolic decompensation, but in several clinical states its action appears to be inadequate despite normal or raised serum concentrations of immunoreactive insulin. These insulin resistant states are characterised by raised circulating insulin concentrations in the face of normal or raised blood glucose concentrations. Table I lists some examples.
